| The Ultimate Teen Bedroom | |
The design concept was led by the client who had very definite ideas of how he wanted his bedroom to look. Interior designers T-Positive pulled together a team of contractors including AB Audio Visual to produce a stunning room. The room was to be very minimalist, with virtually all surfaces in white except for the furniture which was a light wood. The colour was to be created by LED colour changers located in a coffer around the perimeter of the room. This product consisted of 1 watt linear LED fittings to give a consistent wash on all walls. The ceiling was to have a fibre optic star feature based upon the Gemini constellation. Both the LED and fibre optic were to be fully controllable for both brightness, colour and effect. As the room became more complex in terms of AV and lighting it was decided that a control system that could give complete control, but also automate some functions, was a necessity. An AMX Netlinx controller with a wireless touch screen interface would be the ultimate method of control. The system was designed to detect the presence of anyone walking into the bedroom lobby and switch on a suitable level of lighting. As the wardrobes were also located here, each door was fitted with a detector to brighten the lighting should a door be opened. The bedroom was also fitted with a movement detector that would bring on lighting to a predetermined level when the room was entered. The client would be able to change all lighting from the touch screen and save these as presets which could be recalled at any time. A lighting preset linked to viewing TV would ensure that the correct level of lighting would be achieved every time the TV was switched on. Sound was delivered to the room via a Bose Lifestyle 48. A 50" HD Plasma TV was fed by Sky HD and a Blu-Ray player. The control of the visual displays and audio system was also automated to remove the annoyance of switching on and selecting the correct settings on a number of devices. For instance, pressing the Sky button would not only switch on the Sky box, but also switch on the plasma screen on the correct input, switch on the amplifier with a suitable starting volume and correct input settings and also reduce the lighting to the predetermined level. A master off switch located at the main door would switch off all AV and lighting equipment at a single press. The control system also had options for controlling the window blinds, bathroom TV and bathroom audio system. LED lighting offers the ability to change colour either constantly or pick out predetermined colours. This maintenance free product has the advantage of low power consumption and longevity. Although LED products have a relatively high capital cost, over the life span of the product they offer considerable cost savings. These products are therefore a good solution for the environmentally aware. |
